Spouse and partner applications are evidence-heavy, and the marriage certificate is the document that anchors the relationship claim. Caseworkers read it against the rest of the bundle, so consistency matters: names must match the passports, dates must match the relationship history, and nothing on the page can be missing. We translate the whole document, including the parts applicants often assume are decorative.
Name handling is the most common source of confusion. Spanish records use two surnames and often include accents and particles that appear differently on a UK passport or a biometric residence permit. We reproduce the name exactly as it appears on the Spanish certificate rather than normalising it, because the caseworker's job is to match documents to each other, not to guess at a preferred spelling. If a name differs between your documents, mention it at checkout and we will note it factually in the translation rather than silently choosing one form.
A marriage entered outside Spain but registered in the Spanish civil register produces a slightly different certificate, often with a consular annotation. Those annotations carry the legal weight that makes the marriage recognisable, so they are translated and identified, not summarised.

Is a libro de familia the same as a marriage certificate?
No. The libro de familia is a family record book and UKVI usually asks for the marriage certificate itself from the Registro Civil. We can translate either, but check the requirement before ordering so you submit the document that was asked for.
Our marriage was registered at a Spanish consulate abroad. Is that different?
